The Christian bible encourages kindness, bonds of peace, and receiving others. This means everyone, gay, straight, or otherwise. Supporting passages:
- “… receive one another with kindness, as the Christ has received you, to the glory of God.” --Romans 15:7
- “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” --Ephesians 4:3
- “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me.” --Matthew 10:40
About this website:
In October 1996, the AIDS Memorial Quilt was displayed in full at the National Mall, which is a large, grassy area in Washington, D. C. My husband and I decided to see the quilt in person. We took the train into D. C. and from there walked to the National Mall. There, before we reached the quilt, we saw a single protester holding a sign with the statement, “GOD HATES FAGS.”
We were baffled. Who would do that? Who would protest the AIDS memorial quilt? Who would hold a sign with that message? Years later, we realized we had encountered a Westboro Baptist Church protester, likely Fred Waldron Phelps Sr.
The Westboro Church’s heyday has come and gone, although church members still protest with their signs of hate. They have a web address, which is the same as you see here on this site except with the (dot) com ending. My hope is to quietly steer some of their webtraffic to this site, where visitors will see bible passages contradicting the protest messages of the Westboro Church.
